RALPH “BUCKSHOT” O’BRIEN WAS A POINT GUARD WHO GREW UP IN INDIANAPOLIS AND LATER BECAME AN ALL-AMERICAN AT BUTLER UNIVERSITY AND EVENTUAL INDUCTEE INTO THE BUTLER HALL OF FAME.  DURING HIS ALL-AMERICAN SEASON HE HELPED BUTLER REACH 11TH IN THE AP POLL, WHILE AVERAGING 18.3 PPG.  BUCKSHOT O’BRIEN WAS THE FIRST PLAYER IN BUTLER HISTORY TO REACH 1,000 POINTS.  HE WAS DRAFTED INTO THE NBA IN 1950 AND PLAYED TWO YEARS IN THE NBA, AVERAGING 7.1 PPG WHILE BEING LISTED AT 5’9″ AND 160 LBS.  AFTER HIS PLAYING DAYS HE HAD A VERY SUCCESSFUL CAREER IN THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY AND EVENTUALLY RETIRED AND MOVED TO CLEARWATER, FL. HE WAS A WELL RESPECTED AND LOVED MEMBER OF CALVARY CHURCH BEFORE PASSING AWAY IN 2018.
